The group name we will use is WALC, leave the number blank I will fill it in before I send it in. You may mail it to me by December 1 or give it to me at the November meeting.

Josephine is our WALC member in Uganda. WALC has been sponsoring her ILCA membership for the past few years. 2 summers ago, Angela Lang went on one or our scholarships to work with Josephine on a project to educate local health care providers to better support breastfeeding women.
Good to hear from you Josephine!

Not certain if I’m doing something wrong or not. I cannot access the slides for the Dr. Thomas Power Point. Thanks.

  • #5 by Charlene Zeszutek on April 13, 2015 - 2:02 pm

I am looking for the copy of the slide in Marsha Walker’s Nipple Nuance lecture for Treatment options for damaged nipples. It’s too small in the powerpoint and I recall she said she would post a copy for us.

We are coming up on the deadline to renew/join USLCA for 2016. For new memberships a form is available here http://uslca.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/application.pdf . Renewals do not require a form. Please mail your form (if necessary) and $69 check made out to WALC to Kathie Russell. Her contact info is in the member directory. Checks must be received by December 1st.

  • #8 by AAltshuler on November 21, 2015 - 4:25 pm

And what about ILCA renewal? Can we send that as well?

  • #9 by Allison Laverty Montag on November 22, 2015 - 11:28 am

ILCA is not offering group memberships this year. If it changes in the future we would definitely consider doing it.

  • #10 by DGruender on January 15, 2016 - 2:53 pm

Do you have to register yearly for WALC membership or is it good for several years?

  • #11 by Allison Laverty Montag on January 16, 2016 - 12:45 pm

You need to register yearly. Memberships expire in March each year. If you are not currently a member and renew now, it will expire in March 2017. Your membership gets you a discount on the yearly conference as well as free credits at the quarterly meetings/education. What a deal!

It was a tough question this week! I thought I knew a lot about this but it’s apparent we have so much more to learn about Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Are you dealing with many mothers that are taking methadone or buprenorphine?

  • #19 by Allison Laverty Montag on October 31, 2016 - 10:07 am

The provider course is coming up this Sunday! Do you know a provider or provider-in-training that would be interested in attending? Limited scholarships provided through a WALC grant are available.

Another great opportunity to increase outpatient breastfeeding support in your community!
Do you know of a clinic, hospital, agency, store or individual that serves breastfeeding families and wants to do more to support mothers’ breastfeeding goals?
The Milk Mob has 3 upcoming trainings this October in Wisconsin. Courses are in Madison, Eau Claire and Oshkosh.
Please share this info with anyone who may be interested in increasing support in their area.

    Rachel:
What a beautiful story. There is so much to learn and share with the mother’s we work with. Every year, I am amazed @ what I can do to help these couplets on the journey to successful breastfeeding.
The pictures are wonderful. Thanks for sharing your story.

Hi Allison. I would love to connect with you and anyone who is working in hospital settings, NICUs and in public health/WIC . I am leading a USLCA webinar next week on COVID-19: Best Practices for lactation consultants and doulas, and have an online course available as well. My practice setting has been home-based, and thus, the gap I wanted to fill, but I also want to hear direct experiences and transmission-specific precautions from others – how are you managing the limited supplies? Are you masking when you consult? What level of exposure constitutes exclude from duty? (Ie – obviously if someone is in quarantine, but what about having CONTACT with someone who is self-monitoring?) Are you using a 14 day self-quarantine if someone around you has respiratory symptoms but not confirmed or PUI? (ie, the child who has the sniffles). I am interested in hearing about any clear guidelines if they are being used in your setting as well as personal stories and experiences! Thanks so much! At the moment, the USLCA hit capacity so I can’t say “come!” but it will be recorded or you can access our program: https://wisdomwaydoulas.com/event/community-gathering-for-covid-19-reproductive-health-discussions/ But connect if you want to share your story or know someone I should reach out to!
