Reviewed some of the structure and history of the AAP and its policy recommendations for breastfeeding. Highlighted information on
Hyperbilirubinemia, SIDS, Vitamin D, Growth Curves.
The Third “Option” – Winnie Mading, RN, IBCLC
Explored special needs and resources for the mother who is exclusively pumping and bottle feeding her infant.
Electronic Communication with Breastfeeding Mothers: Promise and Pitfalls – Jenny Thomas, MD, IBCLC
Use of websites and email to communicate with breastfeeding mothers – time, privacy, ethics issues

Meeting was called to order at 1:35 by WALC President, Becky Krumwiede
Becky Krumwiede thanked Carol Cox for her time as Interim president.
Minutes of last meeting were approved
Treasurer’s Report: $15, 546 as of this AM
$300-400 of bills have been paid since this AM

Jan 07 Education with Lisa Brock had great reviews. Lisa is willing to come again.

Conference Report:
1. Committee would like to have more exhibitors. Please submit vendor ideas to conference committee – Donna Bisbee
2. 07 conference had 373 participants – largest yet
3. 08 Conference will be March 13 & 14
4. Speakers for 08: Catherine Watson-Genna, James McKenna and Lisa Brock
5. Brochures will be available for the 08 conference on our website in late November. A reminder will be on the tickler. Conference brochures will be mailed in early January.

Membership: Currently at 163
Membership Directories were handed out – rest will be mailed
Resources has been disbanded due to lack of use.
Scholarships – we currently have $446 available for members to use for a course or to take IBCLC test. Check website for more
information
Association Updates
U.S.L.C.A. information sent out recently about Health Identifier for private practice – these are due May 23rd.
Political Updates
Hearing for the WI Senate Bill 30 (Bill to protect mothers’ and babies’ right to breastfeed in public) is today, rescheduled from Wed May 16th. The Companion bill,
House Bill 104 had over 80 people show up at the hearing but has not made it out of committee. Write or call your state senators and legislators to let them know this is
important.
Announcements:
We have syllabus and Kay Hoover handouts available from our conference. The syllabus contains detailed information from all presentations. Syllabus $10, Hoover
handouts $1
Winnie Mading and Roxanne Gollata were featured in an April 14, 2007 Appleton Post Crescent article on breastfeeding.
New Business:
Elections will be held in January for WALC President and Secretary. Anyone interested in serving can let any WALC Board member know.
