Those of us on the Leadership Team of the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes invite all members of WALC to join us for the Long Grove IL Heritage Run and Walk on Saturday, September 10 at 8:30 am.

Personally, I will be doing the 3K walk (just under 2 miles) but some of my friends who are runners will be participating in the 5K run (just over 3 miles), which is chip timed and USATF certified.  Water and aid stations are provided.  Our setting will be rolling country roads on a late summer morning.  We expect the breastfeeding community in Illinois and Wisconsin to come out in full force to raise money for the start-up fund for the milk bank.  Walkers can wear their babies or push strollers.  Mark your calendars now and register today at http://www.rotaryrace.org/mmb/ Looking forward to a great day together for a great cause!

Warm regards,
Nancy Mohrbacher

Breastfeeding Conference – July 28

Upcoming conference of interest near Minneapolis – Breastfeeding Success for Mothers and Their Communities.

Secretary

We are in search of a new secretary!  This is a great way to become more involved in your professional organization.  We especially encourage members who have not previously held a board position to apply.  The secretary would need to commit to attending the 4 annual WALC meetings held in September, November, Januay, and May.  The secretary is responsible for taking minutes at both the board and business meetings.  As a board member, the secretary would be elegible to receive half the registration cost for each ILCA conference attended while assuming secretary position.  WALC membership is also provided for each year while assuming role of secretary.  If interested, please contact me or speak to me at our May WALC meeting.

Thanks, Brook Murphy, WALC president

Alice Tylicki, a long time member of WALC died Wednesday.

From Winnie Mading:
I Was shocked to just learn that Alice Tylicki, a long time member of WALC died Wednesday.  We didn’t even know if she was sick and presumed she was in Florida with her family as she usually is this time of year.  She had been an IBCLC since (I believe) 1987 and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee until her retirement a few years ago.  She was a La Leche League Leader for many more years than that and was currently a co-leader with Marcia Barritt and myself.  There will be a visitation Monday evening and a service on Tuesday morning-more details to come in Sunday’s Journal Sentinel.

Support the Milwaukee African American Breastfeeding Network

WALC supports the Milwaukee African American Breastfeeding Network

At our November WALC meeting, we approved financial support for the Milwaukee “African American Breastfeeding Network”  (AABN) coordinated by Dalvery Blackwell, the Project Manager.   AABN offers  meetings that educate and support breastfeeding families and pregnant mother  by providing a nutritious meal and childcare during the education portion of the meeting.   WALC will be contributing $400 this year to the project.

WALC members can also contribute to this program and WALC will match the first $500 of contributions.  Send  your check,  made out to WALC with “AABN Donation” in the memo section,  to our treasurer:
